The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
The Handmaid’s Tale is a feminist dystopian novel about a world in which women have no control over their own bodies. Following a second American Civil War caused by environmental disasters and declining birth rates a totalitarian regime called Republic of Gilead claims power and enslaves any fertile woman that remain, forcing them to carry the children of the regime’s commanders. Offred, one of these handmaids, tries desperately to hold onto memories of when she was free.
